For the first time in nearly a decade, The Great Canon Orchestra have broken their enigmatic silence and announced the news of their new compilation album, 'The Castle', which will feature nearly 30 tracks, including some uncovered from deep inside the Aulde Church Sound Archives. The news comes just some 3 weeks after the cancellation of the digital re-release of their 1980 debut album, 'To Live A Moment Longer'. Due to licensing issues and copyright changes over the past 40 years, a great deal of the content that was released as part of the album has changed hands, leading to the ultimate scrapping of the re-release. Their last official album was announced in 2012, and after being unexpectedly (by both parties) postponed by Aulde Church Music, was released in early 2014.
This new compilation album will be one of three future releases, highlighting the group's musical journey throughout the decades. Following The Great Canon Orchestra's releases (and unreleases) from 1979, during the groups earliest days when it only consisted of two of the four current members to 1984, when they were celebrating the belated success of their debut album. The album is also said to feature content from their planned 1983 album, as well as their lost 1980 self-titled single (not to be confused with TGCO [1980 EP]).
An official spokesperson for the enigmatic group revealed that, "The group felt it important to celebrate their 40th anniversary, yet with the Covid-19 pandemic ultimately cancelling all plans for 2020, they made the decision with White Boar Music to release three compilation albums instead." The official release date for the new album has not yet been set in stone, yet White Boar Music & Olympus Music have mutually agreed that the album must not be released any later than 9th May 2022. The following albums will be announced in due course, yet according to TGCO's official spokesperson, "We shouldn't expect an announcement on the next two compilation albums until at least four weeks after the first compilation album's release date."
This album was previously hinted at by Noel Hornby of The Great Canon Orchestra fan page, a blog that's been up for nearly 15 years, completely dedicated to TGCO.
We look forward to the release of this new album and more information is sure to follow in upcoming weeks...
